A Kapwing alternative when you need the transcript
Transcribe a saved recording →Which workflow fits your recording?
Choose LongScribe: You need TXT, SRT, DOCX or JSON from an interview, lecture or supported public video link, without producing a new video.
Choose the other tool: You want to edit a video timeline, style or burn in captions, repurpose clips, or work in a shared video project.
Try your own authorized recording: upload a saved file or paste a supported public URL. Source access and plan limits still apply.

| Free access | 60 min/month across 20 recordings; separate anonymous demo | Free editor; 10 AI credits shown on published pricing |
| AI usage model | Monthly transcription-minute/job allowance | Credit-based: auto-subtitling is 1 credit per minute |
| Transcript exports | TXT, SRT, DOCX, JSON | TXT transcript, plus caption formats such as SRT/VTT |
| Watermark | Separate text/subtitle downloads, not a video render | TXT transcript has no watermark; Free MP4 video exports do |

| Best fit | Searchable full transcript for research and documentation | Create and publish finished video content |
Where the tools overlap
Both tools can generate text from speech. Kapwing also edits video and lets you work with styled captions. LongScribe's main output is a correctable transcript with separate timed SRT captions, not a rendered video or burned-in subtitles.
Do not confuse free video and free transcript exports
Kapwing's own help says a downloaded TXT transcript has no watermark on the free account; free exported MP4 video projects can have a watermark. Its plan page currently lists 10 free AI credits. Do not infer unlimited free subtitling from free editing.
A long recording still has real limits
LongScribe Free includes 60 min/month across 20 recordings. A three-hour recording can consume that entire monthly allowance, and file-size/source limits apply separately. Longer work may need a paid allowance; an anonymous demo may provide only a shortened preview.
When more transcription becomes recurring work
LongScribe Premium is $4.99/month: up to 5,000 min/month and 500 recordings, subject to plan-specific job, upload-size and source-access limits. Kapwing's paid plans include much more than speech-to-text, so compare both feature scope and the units each service bills for before choosing.
A practical text-first workflow
Upload an authorized recording or paste a supported public URL, wait for processing, inspect names and timestamps, then download TXT/DOCX for notes or an SRT for a separate video editor. You still need a video editor to render captions into a video.

Frequently asked questions
Does Kapwing transcribe video to text?
Yes. Kapwing has a transcript editor and exports text; it is not just a video editor without transcription.
Does Kapwing watermark a free TXT transcript?
Kapwing says free downloaded TXT transcripts have no watermark. Its watermark policy for exported video projects is different.
Does LongScribe render videos with burned-in captions?
No. LongScribe makes a transcript and downloadable timed subtitle files such as SRT, which you can take into a video editor.
Can I transcribe three hours for free?
The ordinary Free budget is 60 min/month across 20 recordings. A three-hour recording would use the monthly minutes if permitted by the source, file-size and job limits. A demo may be a shortened preview.
Which should I pick for clips and social posts?
Kapwing is a better fit when you need editing and rendered videos. Choose LongScribe for standalone searchable transcript files instead of a full video-production workflow.
