Quotable text with timestamps

Use timestamps to locate candidate quotes quickly, then verify the wording against the recording before citing it.

Label who said what

On Premium, speaker detection splits the recording into turns labelled Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on. Replace those labels with real names in the browser, then carry them into TXT, SRT, DOCX and JSON exports. Review overlapping speech and important quotations against the recording.

Phone and remote interviews

Upload a saved phone interview directly. For remote interviews, sign in and choose an authorized file from Google Drive or OneDrive, or connect eligible Zoom cloud recordings. A private meeting share URL is not the same thing as a public media download URL. You can also upload a permitted downloaded file. LongScribe works after the call.

For journalists and researchers

Timestamped, searchable text speeds up articles, qualitative research and podcast show notes — find a name or a figure across a long interview in seconds.

Edit and share

Edit in the browser and share the transcript with a public link, or export TXT, SRT and DOCX for your own workflow.

When interviews become recurring work

The Free allowance is 20 recordings and 60 minutes per month. Premium ($4.99/month) offers up to 500 recordings and 5,000 minutes per month with speaker labels; the normal per-source and upload limits still apply.

Recorded interview or live meeting assistant?

LongScribe is built around a recorded interview: upload the saved audio or video, or use another supported source, then review a timestamped transcript. Otter and Notta are more natural choices when live meeting capture, meeting summaries, action items or a meeting bot are central to the workflow.

Quote-critical interviews need source review

Use timestamps to verify quote-critical wording against the recording. Review proper names, numbers, specialist terminology, speaker overlap and any line where the identity of the speaker matters. Premium speaker labels are useful working labels, but difficult overlap still deserves human review.

When human transcription fits better

Choose a human transcription service when the interview needs a reviewed verbatim deliverable, when difficult audio makes automated output risky, or when a client or workflow explicitly requires human transcription.

Sources and facts checked

Facts checked September 11, 2026 against official product and help documentation. LongScribe publishes this decision guide and is one of the products discussed; the source URLs are included so workflow claims can be re-checked as products change. When LongScribe fits qualitative research

For qualitative research interviews, transcribe a saved recording, review quotes at timestamps, and use Premium speaker labels for multiple participants. Export TXT, DOCX or JSON for a separate coding workflow; LongScribe does not claim a native NVivo integration or built-in theme coding.

When another research workflow fits better

Use NVivo or dedicated research software for qualitative coding, annotations and thematic analysis beyond transcription. For evidence needing human-certified accuracy, choose a qualified human transcription service and verify its terms; LongScribe provides automated, reviewable transcripts.

What is the best transcription software for interviews?

For prerecorded interviews, choose a tool that gives you timestamps, editable text, speaker labels and exports you can keep. LongScribe fits that post-recording workflow; LongScribe High Accuracy is the accuracy-first option for noisy, multi-speaker or quote-sensitive recordings. If you need a bot to join and capture a live call, use a live-meeting product instead. Important quotations, names and numbers should still be checked against the source audio before publication.

Interview with two speakers: a worked example, not a benchmark

Illustrative two-person segment: [00:00] Speaker 1: What did the study measure? [00:06] Speaker 2: We measured response time. Upload a saved recording and transcribe its words first; eligible Premium speaker detection then assigns anonymous turns. Rename or correct the assignments by listening at timestamps before exporting TXT, SRT, DOCX or JSON. This invented dialogue demonstrates a workflow, not a measured diarization accuracy test. Voice overlap, background noise and very short turns require human review. The dedicated speaker-label guide contains an explicitly illustrative demonstration.

Accented and noisy interviews: what was tested

For an accented or phone-recorded interview, try a representative passage and compare uncertain words to the original before citing anyone. LongScribe's standard-ASR benchmark v1 measured 19.78% WER on five non-native English short clips and 30.11% WER on five noisy/far-field clips; it did not test every accent or certify quotations. High Accuracy is a separate paid ASR route, and its 14.26% WER comes from a different 20-clip holdout-v2 test. High Accuracy's 14.26% WER is a separate self-published holdout-v2 result on 20 short clips / 540 reference words. That set was later used to select the High Accuracy path, so it is not independent post-selection validation, and is not a Premium or code-switching score.

Where is your saved interview?

Use the upload form above for a local recording. For permitted private cloud recordings, sign in and choose the source; access permissions and normal LongScribe limits still apply.

LongScribe is not a live meeting bot. It does not join calls, unlock private meeting links, or verify quotes for publication.

Frequently asked questions

Does the transcript label who said what?

Yes, on Premium. Speaker detection splits the recording into turns, and you can replace 'Speaker 1' with the person's real name — it carries into the TXT, SRT, DOCX and JSON downloads. On the free plan the transcript comes back as one flowing text with timestamps.

Can I transcribe a Zoom or Google Meet interview?

Yes, from a saved recording you may access. Upload the authorized audio/video file, select a permitted Google Drive or OneDrive file after signing in, or use a connected Zoom account for available cloud recordings. Google Meet recordings stored in Drive are imported as files; LongScribe never joins the live call or bypasses access rules.

Can I use it for phone interviews?

Yes. Phone recordings can be uploaded directly.

Which formats can I export?

TXT, SRT and DOCX, or share the transcript with a public link.

Should I use LongScribe, Otter or Notta for an interview?

Use LongScribe when you already have the recorded interview and want a transcript-first workflow. Otter or Notta can be a better fit when the interview happens inside a live meeting workflow and real-time capture, summaries or action items matter.

How should I handle speaker overlap in an interview transcript?

Treat speaker overlap as a review point. Use the timestamp to replay the audio, confirm who spoke and verify any quote-critical wording before using it.

What is the best transcription software for interviews?

Best tool to transcribe an interview with two speakers?

There is no independently established single best tool for every two-speaker interview. For a saved recording, LongScribe produces a timestamped transcript and optional Premium diarization into editable Speaker 1 / Speaker 2 turns; it is not a live interview bot. Check both word accuracy and who-spoke-when accuracy against your own sample. Premium starts at $4.99/month, and speaker detection uses 2x transcription minutes. Free normally provides 60 minutes across 20 recordings, without Premium speaker labeling. Choose a live-meeting product if you need live capture and a human service if a certified verbatim transcript is required.

Can LongScribe tell two speakers apart and identify their names?

Premium speaker detection can split an eligible saved interview into generic Speaker 1 / Speaker 2 turns. It does not identify real people by voice. Review and rename labels, correct individual misassigned segments and check speech overlap before publishing a quote.

How do I transcribe a noisy interview with a strong accent?

For an accented or phone-recorded interview, try a representative passage and compare uncertain words to the original before citing anyone. LongScribe's standard-ASR benchmark v1 measured 19.78% WER on five non-native English short clips and 30.11% WER on five noisy/far-field clips; it did not test every accent or certify quotations.
