Kanji readings can be ambiguous
Written Japanese mixes kanji, hiragana and katakana. Spoken homophones may have several written forms; review names and specialized terms.
Courses, interviews and creator recordings
A permitted saved lesson, podcast or stream recording can become searchable text, but overlapping voices and informal speech still need human review.
When to use explicit Japanese
Japanese (ja) is selected for known Japanese speech. Use Detect automatically if unsure; review mixed Japanese-English phrases manually.
Japanese SRT is not a rendered video
Download timed SRT and check punctuation or timing before importing it into another editor. This page does not burn subtitles into MP4.
How to transcribe a recording here
- Choose a saved recording you are permitted to transcribe. Check the file-size limit displayed in this quick upload form.
- Spoken language is preselected as Japanese (日本語). Choose Detect automatically when unsure.
- Upload, wait for processing and check names, numbers and timestamps against the audio before exporting text or subtitle files.
Language-specific caution: Kanji readings, homophones and names require careful review.
Free account: 60 minutes and 20 recordings per month, plus plan-specific file-size, job-length and source limits. An anonymous try-without-account flow may return a shortened preview rather than a full transcript. Transcription is not automatically English translation.
Have an accessible public media link instead of a local file? Paste the supported public URL in the main app. The main app has separate language settings; select the spoken language again there if necessary.
Frequently asked questions
Does the result use kanji and kana?
It may contain kanji, hiragana and katakana. Check names, readings and word boundaries in important passages.
Can it separate several Japanese speakers?
Overlapping speech can be missed. Speaker labels are a separate Premium feature and still need review.
Can I export Japanese as romaji?
The quick uploader selects Japanese transcription, not a separate romaji conversion mode.
Does the Japanese transcript include English translation?
No. Translation is a distinct paid operation; transcription keeps the original language.
Can I download SRT for a long Japanese recording?
Yes, if the job completes within its applicable source, upload, duration and account limits.
