German compounds and capitalization

A transcript may contain ä, ö, ü, ß and capitalized nouns, but the spelling is not guaranteed. Review specialist compounds, names and numbers.

Turn a saved lecture into searchable text

Find a topic from an authorized recording using timestamps. Technical words and abbreviations often require corrections against the original.

Austrian, Swiss and regional pronunciation

German (de) is not a separate model for each national variety or dialect. Regional pronunciation, informal speech and poor audio may reduce accuracy.

Take your German text to another editor

Export DOCX or TXT for written notes and SRT for timed subtitles. LongScribe does not render a captioned video from an SRT.

How to transcribe a recording here

  1. Choose a saved recording you are permitted to transcribe. Check the file-size limit displayed in this quick upload form.
  2. Spoken language is preselected as German (Deutsch). Choose Detect automatically when unsure.
  3. Upload, wait for processing and check names, numbers and timestamps against the audio before exporting text or subtitle files.

Language-specific caution: German compounds, regional accents and technical nouns need proofreading.

Free account: 60 minutes and 20 recordings per month, plus plan-specific file-size, job-length and source limits. An anonymous try-without-account flow may return a shortened preview rather than a full transcript. Transcription is not automatically English translation.

Have an accessible public media link instead of a local file? Paste the supported public URL in the main app. The main app has separate language settings; select the spoken language again there if necessary.

Frequently asked questions

Does this understand umlauts and ß?

German orthography can appear, but the model may still miswrite a word. Proofread compounds and names.

Can I choose German without auto-detection?

Yes. German (de) is selected in this quick form. Choose Detect automatically if you do not know the language.

Is Swiss German guaranteed to work?

No. The selector is German (de), not a specific Swiss German dialect mode. Test a sample.

Can German speech be translated automatically?

Selecting German is for original-language transcription, not free English translation. Translation requires an eligible paid plan.

Can I use this for German SRT captions?

Yes, export SRT from an eligible completed job and review time segmentation before publication.
